- TOM COUGHLIN EXPECTS WR HAKEEM NICKS TO ATTEND MINICAMP NEXT WEEK - New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is expecting wide receiver Hakeem Nicks to show up at the teams’ mandatory minicamp next week, although he still hasn’t spoken to Nicks about why he’s missed the Giants voluntary OTA’s. “We have a mandatory camp… I would expect that he would be here,” Coughlin said. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that Peter Schaffer, Nicks’ agent, said, “It’s a great day to be alive” when asked if Nicks’ absence was related to his contract. Nicks is entering the final year of his contract. Wide receiver Victor Cruz has not reported to any of the teams OTA’s either, but Coughlin doesn’t expect Cruz to be at minicamp next week since he isn’t under contract with the team. He and his agent are looking to work out a long-term extension with the Giants. “I think that Cruz is a different category [than Nicks],” Coughlin said. “I’d like to have him, don’t get me wrong.” Since Cruz isn’t under contract with the Giants, he cannot be fined if he doesn’t show up to the mandatory minicamp. But since Nicks is under contract, he can be fined up to $66,150. $11,025 for first missed day, $22,050 for the second and $33,075 for the third day of minicamp missed. (Photo: Getty Images)
