GOODELL PROPOSES PLAYOFF EXPANSION IN 2015 - Earlier today, Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, called for two extra teams to make the NFL post-season. Goodell calls this proposition a “priority” for the competition committee in 2014.Last March the competition committee opted against the recommendation, which is why Goodell is bringing the topic back up. He evidently feels this is an important issue and is passionate about getting it approved. “If expanding the postseason would allow other teams to get into the dance, and they have the potential of going on and winning the Super Bowl,” Goodell explained, “that’s a good thing for fans, that’s a good thing competitively.”If this proposal is approved, it will not take effect until the 2015 season, due to scheduling conflicts in 2014. Instead of two games on wild card weekend, each conference would increase to three games. One possibility to pencil in these extra teams is to decrease pre-season games by a week from four to three. No arguing there would be more competition in the post season, however you will see more 9-7 and 8-8 teams in the playoffs. I like seeing underdogs make it to the playoffs and have a fighting chance, but I think this method is just a speed bump to a great team winning it all. (Photo: Gridironrats.com)
